Why Would Any Canadian Say-Our Brothers the Taliban?

According to a Canadian Press report released yesterday, the cabinet colleague of Canada's National Defence Minister (a Liberal on Trudeau's team) sent shivers up the spines of most Canadians who were appalled that she called the Taliban "our brothers" before reporters at a press conference gathered to get updates on Canada's evacuation efforts in Afghanistan.

We have several Muslims that have high-level positions on both federal and provincial levels. There are many Muslims who would not call the Taliban "brothers". However, to refer to any "terrorist group" as "our brothers" is simply over the top, unacceptable. 

Yet that is exactly what Gender Equality Minister Maryam Monsef did yesterday. Apparently tweets immediately went viral as many, including those on the alt-right, accused her of supporting the extremists regime (a listed terrorist organization in Canada).

Her words: "I want to take this opportunity to speak to our brothers, the Taliban..." She went on to state that the Canadian government counts on the group to ensure that those wanting to leave Afghanistan can safely do so.

She hastily explained away her reason for calling the Taliban "brothers". It was a "cultural reference", stating: "[...] Muslims refer to each other as brothers and sisters, so, you know, rest assured I continue to believe deeply that the Taliban are a terrorist organization."

Later on tonight (Pacific time), I will be posting an article called "We Have Not the Time". It was intended to be posted a few days ago, however, when a brief synopsis and link referring to the rescue mission that a radio host named Glenn Beck was trying to establish, my heart was moved for those caught in Afghanistan.

Right now, I am simply providing an update for any who may be interested. Bless all of you who lifted up the Afghans and everyone involved in the evacuation efforts by several countries.
